July Tech Night 2020: Antenna Analyzers

MFJ-207 Antenna Analyzer

The July NOARC Tech Night will be presented by guest Scott Morgan, AC5LT, from the Playground Amateur Radio Club (PARC) in Fort Walton Beach.  He is an active member in PARC, their hamfest, and the ARRL VEC Testing team.  Scott’s topic for the evening will be Antenna Analyzers.

As many of you know, antenna analyzers come in many flavors and capabilities.  A google search a few months ago yielded price ranges from a couple of hundred dollars to a few thousand dollars.

Please come out and support Scott, and learn something new on Antenna Analyzers.

Thursday, July 23, 2020, 7:00 pm at the Live Oak Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.

Field Day 2020 (24 hour operation)

Field Day is ham radio’s open house. Every June, more than 40,000 hams throughout North America set up temporary transmitting stations in public places to demonstrate ham radio’s science, skill and service to our communities and our nation. It combines public service, emergency preparedness, community outreach, and technical skills all in a single event. Field Day has been an annual event since 1933, and remains the most popular event in ham radio. (from http://www.arrl.org/field-day

This year, due to the Corona Virus, the club has decided to operate Field Day 2020 from our individual homes! The ARRL Rules have been modified to adjust for this change across the nation. Please enjoy the excitement of Field Day from the safety of your home!

When: Saturday, June 27, 2020 from 1:00 pm to 1:00 pm on the 28t h.     (24 hours)

Where: AT YOUR HOME due to the Corona Virus pandemic. Be safe!

A Technician License Study Course will be offered this summer by the North Okaloosa Amateur Radio Club (NOARC) of Crestview, Florida.

Classes will be on Mondays, 6:30 to 9:30 pm, starting July 13, 2020, for four weeks (July 13, 20, 27 and August 03).  The cost of the class is FREE, but donations will be accepted.  The class will be taught using Zoom software.  This method will save time and travel, and help with the social distancing.

We are using the ARRL Ham License Manual, Fourth Edition.  The books can be acquired from the ARRL website at http://www.arrl.org/shop/search.php?mode=search&page=1 or most ham radio stores.

Contact Mike W4BZM (W4BZM@arrl.net), or Bruce KA5DLV with questions, or use the Contact NOARC page on the NOARC website (https://w4aaz.org/contact/).  An exam will be planned for August 10 (NO Walkins) with the place to be determined.   We will need your name, phone number and email address for the class.

We look forward to hearing from you!
